Rebecca Edwards
I have worked throughout Cumbria teaching various classes since 1996 and now teach Pilates and Yoga classes in Kendal, Windermere and Staveley.
I have a holistic approach to life and love the mind body connection that Pilates and Yoga promote. After years of teaching high impact classes I have moved my focus toward a calmer and deeper approach to well being. I enjoy daily Yoga practise along with Pilates, swimming, fell walking and a little climbing.
I discovered Pilates in 2000 and my first experience got me hooked! So impressed by the results that Pilates brought to my body (awareness, shape and strength) without the impact that many other exercises bring, I was inspired to start teaching Pilates myself to share it with others. Have been teaching Pilates for over 5 years, mainly classes but also with one to one clients, but have 14 years teaching experience prior to that. Keeping a healthy body and mind is very important to me, and I find that Pilates and Yoga offer well rounded training for both.
I have maintained my own Yoga practice for almost 10 years, and came to this before Pilates. Yoga opens you to a way of living that brings everything needed to keep a well balanced life for mind, body and spirit. It encourages the peacefulness within to emerge and challenges thinking, learning and developement in life. I share my Yoga experience in class and hope that those who come to class continue their journey in Yoga throught their own discovery and experiences. I have studied and practiced Yoga in India, Morocco and England and continue to develop through daily Yoga practice, ongoing guidance, readings and understanding of how to integrate Yoga as a way of living.
From childhood my interests have always surrounded health and wellbeing and I have followed this passion through life. I am qualified in instructing Pilates, Yoga, swimming, general exercise classes, gym to advanced level and personl training, and am a Reiki Healer which I will occasionally incorporate in one to one sessions. My training and experience enables me to write exercise programmes for GP referred clients with specific needs for their health and fitness training. Due to the mix of people that take up Pilates and Yoga, I find this experience very beneficial. Training and qualifications are listed below.
It is important to keep up to date with training so I attend workshops and training programmes to develop my knowledge and abilities as a teacher. I consider my teaching methods to be safe, clear, understandable and adaptable to the abiliites within the group. I hope to be able to show you how Pilates and Yoga can work not only to help make you fitter, but also to help you become more inwardly aware of your body, mental and emotional stability for day to day life.
"This is a really enjoyable class and one of the few things I have stuck with for any length of time. Rebecca is a excellent at tailoring the exercises to suit the individual requirements/abilities of each person. You feel great when you have done an hour of Pilates!" - Celia Clarke
